FAQ

What can I do to fix my car as an hobby?

If you are interested in cars, why not take it on as a hobby? You can repair them, buy their parts, sell them, or just have fun with them. If you are looking for something new, this would be a great hobby.

But it is not easy to turn this into your full-time occupation. It requires a lot of hard work and dedication. And you'll need to invest a lot of money too.

So unless you have a good reason for wanting to get involved with cars, then it might be best to leave it alone.

Is it really worth becoming a mechanic.

The answer depends on what you are looking for in life. If money is your goal, then you can answer "yes". But if you are searching for meaning and purpose, then you should not answer this question.

If you don’t have any mechanical skills, it’s pointless to get into it. It will just waste your time. It's not going to make you rich. It's unlikely that you will be famous. It's unlikely that it will change your life.

You would need to spend years learning how to do everything properly. Also, you would need to hire someone else to fix it if it broke down. It's the reason most people don't bother. They find something else to do.

You can make a lot of money if you are looking to do well. If you are looking for a fulfilling life, however, then stay clear of the mechanics' industry.

What qualifications do I need to be a truck mechanic?

This job requires you to be a skilled mechanic, although you do not need any formal training. Your experience is valuable because it allows you to diagnose problems quickly, efficiently and effectively.

Also, your knowledge of diesel technology will be a benefit as you can help us understand which parts are needed for our vehicles.

What length is an automotive course?

A course in automotive lasts three years.

The first year is spent on theory, learning all about cars. The second year will be spent in practical training. Here you will learn how fix engines, drive and other mechanic jobs. The last year is spent at a local shop, where you will get practical experience with real-world problems.

What kind of car mechanic jobs exists?

For car mechanics, there are three main areas for employment:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is where most people first think of becoming a mechanic. It's the easiest way for most people to get started. Either you can work in a shop that is owned by another person or start your own business.

If you are interested in working at a shop you will need to apply for membership to a union. After being accepted into the union, the union will provide training.

Once you complete the training, it's time to get started.

If you plan to open your own garage you will need to register with government. After registering, you'll be required to meet certain standards.

When you've registered, you'll be given a license to operate your garage.

Your license allows you to sell spare parts and make minor repairs. It won't permit you to fix serious engine problems.

Apart from selling spare parts, customers will also expect you to provide guidance and advice.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics who can specialize in a particular area of the car. They may be trained to replace or repair tires, or they may specialize in brakes.

However, dealerships may also employ general mechanics who are able to handle all aspects related to car repairs.

These positions may require applicants to complete specific training before being allowed on the job. This means employers can choose which candidates are best suited for their role.

Some dealerships will hire graduates straight from college. These graduates are already familiar with basic mechanics and can therefore learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages are not associated with any one dealership. Instead, independent garages tend to concentrate on providing high-quality services.

Independent garages have the ability to afford higher wages, as they aren’t associated with any one company. These jobs generally pay better than those at dealerships.

Independent garages don't necessarily make for better work environments. Many owners prefer to run their businesses themselves rather than delegate responsibility to employees.

So you may find yourself working long hours without having any say over what happens during the day.

You should also expect to earn lower wages than if you were employed at a dealership.

The good news is that you can easily switch between different kinds of jobs. If you want to work at a dealership, then you simply need to ask your current employer if he would consider hiring you as a mechanic instead.

You could also apply directly to an owner of a garage if that's what you want.

Finding a new job is not always easy. You can earn more depending on many other factors.

For example, the type of vehicle you repair and whether you charge extra for labor.

How To

How to become an automotive technician

An automotive technician provides repair services and maintenance to vehicles. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she works with customers to repair their cars and trucks, ATVs or snowmobiles. A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

If you want to be an automotive technician, you need an associate degree from vocational school. After completing this program, he/she will need to pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence's (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands to American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists two sections. The first section tests for mechanical knowledge, the second for practical skills. To pass the test you must go to one of the authorized testing facilities. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. It varies depending on the location of the applicant. Some states require applicants to take a training course while others allow them the freedom to study on their own. In addition, some states license technicians immediately after they receive their license, while others wait until they have completed at least six months of employment as an automotive technician.

To become an automotive technician, one must apply at a local dealership. Most new employees begin as apprentices once they are hired. Apprenticeships last for three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Advanced repairs can be done by some students, including replacing shocks, installing air filters and repairing engines. Classes are offered by most schools during regular business hours. However, there are some schools that offer evening classes for those who need them.

When a student has completed his/her apprenticeship, they become a journeyman. Journeymen typically spend four to five years learning how to install major systems, such as transmissions, differentials, steering gear, suspensions, and drive shafts. Journeymen also learn to fix complicated problems, such as rebuilding engines or troubleshooting electric components. Because they have the experience and knowledge to do the job right, employers love hiring journeymen.

If a candidate successfully passes the required exams and receives a license, he/she might want to consider starting his/her own shop. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2010, nearly 1.7 Million automotive mechanic jobs were available. This figure is expected to rise 18 percent between 2009-2020. When a candidate plans to open his/her own shop he/she should be ready to invest thousands of dollars in equipment.

Many factors affect the automotive technician's salary, including location, education, experience, and employer type. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. An individual with a high school diploma can earn about $21,000 per annum. A bachelor's degree is equivalent to approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with a bachelor's degree earn about $27,000 per annum. The average annual salary for those with master's degrees was $32,000. Salary increases can be common. A professional who earns less that $30,000 today could reasonably expect a $40,000 increase in the next few decades.
