Chrysler made Plymouth its first vehicle back in the 1930s. It became a sub-brand under Chrysler in 1965. It remained a popular seller up until the 1970s when its identity was lost. Here's a look at some Plymouth cars over the years. These include the Plymouth Chrysler Voyager, Grand Voyager, Neon, Breeze, and Prowler. Each model is unique and can help you learn more about the automaker.

Chrysler began building Plymouths as early as the 1930s

The American automotive manufacturer Chrysler Corporation and DaimlerChrysler both produce the Plymouth brand nameplate. Plymouth cars became the third most popular brand in America after being first sold in 1930. While the Plymouth car didn't come cheap in its low-priced segment, it was still well-engineered and reasonably priced. It was more expensive than Ford and Chevrolet at the time, but it had hydraulic brakes.

It was sub-branded Chrysler in 1965.

Plymouth cars were sub-brands of Chrysler Corporation in 1965. The brand was renamed Fury in the same year. This name was used for the newly designed B-body Plymouth line. The Road Runner was offered in a convertible and hardtop coupe. The Gran Fury, a full size Plymouth, was sold to the end in 1977.

It was a high-volume seller until the 1970s

From the mid-1960s up to the early 1970s the Plymouth brand was the number one selling old car. Popular was the slant six engine. Many models were badge-engineered versions. It also featured more efficient engines and a better wrapper as the car industry grew. Although the Plymouth name is quite long, its popularity has been strong and it was a popular choice until the 1970s.

It was a highly-regarded sports car

The AAR 'Cuda was a springtime offering, based on the company of Dan Gurney, that powered it with three 340 engines. The AAR 'Cuda was distinguished from the standard version by its side-dump exhaust pipes, large rear/smaller front E70 tires and distinctive side-dump exhaust pipes. It also featured flat black paint on its hood and fender tops, with special strobe stripes. The Plymouths mid-sized bore more sheet steel than their predecessors in the same year.

It was a van

There was a time when the brand’s future seemed bleak. The newly redesigned 1960 Plymouth was not getting the market's approval, and new Chrysler President William C. Newberg had just begun his tenure when he overheard Chevy boss Ed Cole talking about a downsized 1962 Chevrolet. The 1958 recession was still affecting the economy and the car that had been redesigned wasn't receiving the attention it deserved. George Romney, AMC's president, was in the media declaring the end of the Detroit Dinosaur era.

Although the Plymouth truck was never a big seller, it was a popular choice for a number of reasons. Dodges badge-engineered Dodges with Plymouth grilles, and they also sold commercial cars such as panel delivery vehicles and utility sedans. Plymouth is not often associated with trucks, despite its name. The 1938 Arrow was Plymouth's most famous truck. It was also known by the "Scamp."

How To

How to be an Automotive Technician

A technician who works on vehicles is an automotive technician. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she repairs cars, trucks, motorbikes and snowmobiles for customers. An automotive technician must know how to diagnose problems and perform repairs efficiently, safely, accurately, quickly, and correctly.

To become an automotive technician, a person must first earn an associate's degree from a vocational college. After completing the program, he/she must take the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certification exam. ASE stands to American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. One section tests mechanical knowledge; the second section tests practical skills. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. This process can vary depending on where the applicant lives. Some states require that applicants attend a training class, while others allow them freedom to study at their own pace. Some states issue licenses to technicians as soon as they get their license. Others wait until they have worked at least six months as an automotive technician.

An applicant should apply to a local auto shop in order to start their career as an automotive technician. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeships typically last three years. During this time, a student learns how to perform basic repairs, such as changing oil, adjusting brakes, replacing tires, cleaning spark plugs, inspecting engine compartments, and performing routine maintenance. Some students learn how to do advanced repairs, such as installing air filters, replacing shocks, repairing engines, and replacing transmission fluids. Schools offer classes during business hours. However, there are some schools that offer evening classes for those who need them.

Once a student completes his/her apprenticeship, he/she becomes a journeyman. Journeymen usually spend four to five year learning how to install major systems like transmissions, differentials steering gear, suspensions, drive shafts, and steering gear. You will also learn how to repair complicated electrical components, as well as how to remanufacture engines and rebuild transmissions. Many employers prefer hiring journeymen because they know the job well and understand what the customer expects.

After passing the exams, candidates may be eligible to open their own shop if they pass all requirements. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were almost 1.7 million available jobs in the automotive mechanic field in 2010. This figure is expected to rise 18 percent between 2009-2020. When a candidate plans to open his/her own shop he/she should be ready to invest thousands of dollars in equipment.

There are many factors that affect the salary of an automotive technician, such as where they live, their education and experience. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. Associate's degrees earn approximately $24,000 per annum. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earned about $27,000 per year. Master's degree holders make around $32,000 annually. Salary increases can be common. A professional who earns less that $30,000 today could reasonably expect a $40,000 increase in the next few decades.
